Effect of the Water Extract of Gi Kook Jee Hwang Tang on the Blold Pressure of Rabbits

Abstract
Gi Kook Jee Hwang Tang has been applie in the oriental medicine, and so it has exerted good therapeutic effect on the hypertension, but the effectiveness and the mechanism of Gi Kook Jee Hwang Tang on the blood pressure are not clarified.
This experiment was carried out in order to revaluate the hypotensive action of the water extract of Gi Kook Jee Hwang Tang pharmacologically and to clarify the mechanism of this action in rabbits.
The change of the blood pressure was observed after the administration of the water extract of Gi Kook Jee Hwang Tang(GKJHT) into an ear vein of rabbits.
The following results were obtained:
1. Blood pressure manifested gradual response by the fall of 6.3, 12.5, 20.0 percent in proportion to the administration of 0.1, 0.3, 1.0ml/§¸ of GKJHT, respectively.
2. Administration of GKJHT to the rabbits pretreated with Atropine did nit show any significant differened in the blood pressure, compared with that of the control grop.
3. Administration of GKJHT to the rabbits pretreated with propranolol did not show any significant differened in the blood pressure, compared with that of the control grop.
4. Administration of GKJHT to the rabbits pretreated with Regitine showed significant differened in the blood pressure, compared with that of the control grop.
5. Administration of GKJHT to the rabbits pretreated with Cyproheptadine did not show any significant difference in the blood pressure, compared with that of the control grop.
From the above results, it is suggested that GKJHT has the action on adrenergic ¥á-receptor, and so decrease periperal resistance of blood vessel, the above result that GKJHT can be used in good therapeutic effect on the hypertension.
